Has anybody ever told you,
"well, fill in the blank, you are kind of like 'one of a kind'."
...
Well now, now.
Let's pump the brakes, but my attention - you have.
The stakes are now, officially, raised,
and,
for clemency sake,
even if you are not talking about a specific person,
what other 'things' in your brain are your 'one of a kind'.
...
When you pull back the pages of your little black book,
licking those fingertips before you grab the corner of the paper so nothing is forgotten,
and you scan over that non-imaginary list you have built up inside your head,
it gets intimate for you and your brain's fixated desires,
doesn't it?
...
So,
in all honesty,
there's only one thing we can do here,
isn't there?
...
From writer to reader,
from me to you,
from a little unknown to a lot of unknown,
I believe it is time for us to weave between our timelines for a minute or two and feel vulnerable together, again,
isn't it,
because,
after all,
wouldn't all of you be my 'one of a kind' when it comes to our little dance on these invisible pages?
...
Hmmm... I never really thought about that one...
...
How many songs, from my personal playlist, is it going to take for us to make our way through this portal and still be able to smile before that one magical moment at the end?
When our eyes meet, as well as our words, in that moment of when you realize this connection is, indeed, somewhat 'real'.
Maybe more 'real' than some of the things in your current reality, eh?
...
Strange?
...
Only one way to find out - PRESSES PLAY
'One of a Kind' man check list:
Chocolate covered creme puffs.
The smell of gasoline.
Online gaming with your friends.
Shooting a gun - almost any gun - even a BB gun.
Shooting fireworks - almost any firework.
Seeing her come around the corner in scantly dressed attire, if anything.
Eating ice cream while watching ESPN the OCHO.
Doing burnouts in an abandoned parking lot.
Doing burnouts in a non abandoned parking lot.
Playing pool while drinking domestic beer and the right song comes over the neon lit jukebox.
Jumping anything in any type of vehicle, even a broke down tricycle.
A hand massage after a long day of using them at work.
Sending a text and not knowing if you are going to get a quick response - and you do because you are special.
...
What?
These 'one of a kinds' not hitting right?
Let me see what I can do.
...
When you want to lay your head on her while lounging on the couch and close your eyes for a minute or two while listening to a boring sport play on the television in the background.
The way your room or closet or bathroom looks when she starts bringing her stuff over to your house.
Modifying your vehicle, even if it makes it uglier.
When she's not around and you stumble across a pair of her underwear mixed in with your laundry and you grin to yourself while checking them out.
An energy drink and candy bar.
Your favorite drinking cup.
Putting on your 'go to' shirt and shorts to go anywhere for anything, even if it is inappropriate dress attire and even if you wore it 'just the other day'.
A well cooked steak or burger.
Not having to fill the Q-tip holder because she does it for you.
The way she smells after she showers.
Cool ranch Doritos.
Hanging up on someone or, in the text - 'leaving the conversation'.
...
What?
Still not good enough?
Give me a sec!
...
A day off to be bummy, whether that day off was scheduled or not.
Carrying seventeen bags of groceries from the car to the house in one load just so you can be done.
Moving something that she has precisely placed somewhere in the house just because you do not like cluttering the home with mis-positioned nonsense.
No intimate PDA, even if the buzz is heavy.
Pajama pants on a rainy day.
When you look forward to going to the beach with her for the day and being able to look at her laying in the sun in her underwear and admire her for what she is.
When she leaves you a note in your lunchbox and you do not see it until later on in the work day.
...
Better?
No?
Yes?
Watch this...
Let's wrap this up like we are about to go after some strange in a big city on New Year's Eve night.
...
Kissing her and realizing she tastes exactly like she looks and how you imagined.
Going bowling and acting like a goof ball.
The way her eyes look when she says please or when she says your name.
A good action movie.
When she straightens out another female for you, in your presence, just to let the other girl know what is up - even if you are dating the feminine defender or not.
Doing everything the hard way but still completing the task out of posterity.
Watching a predatory animal hunt.
Putting a line in the water or tagging along with someone who is.
The way she says 'I love you', even when she is angry.
Not having to decide what you are having for dinner.
Watching her clean around the house or straightening things to her liking.
Being resistant to trying hummus because it looks like muddy feces but it turning out to not being as bad as you saw and expected.
The right cigarette (Camel Light only) lit with a Zippo.
...
A couple more unrelated personal confessions?
Sure!
...
A good concert.
Boy talk with the boys while trying to light a gasoline soaked pallet stack with a flaming arrow shot from over thirty yards away.
Illegal riverboat gambling.
Gun and knife shows.
John Wick.
Bass Pro Shops and a thousand dollar gift card.
Singing in the car or shower, even if someone is in there.
Catching her singing or dancing when she openly admits that she does neither.
Watching people be vulnerable around you because they trust you so you become vulnerable with them.
Protecting someone who has dropped their wall around you and only you.
A good BBQ sandwich with NO slaw.
Hitting all green lights on a busy street.
Avoiding a car accident by mere nano-seconds.
Have I mentioned a fresh chocolate covered creme puff?
Good music while the buzz creeps in and you have the right friends around.
Seeing that one friend and the auto smile turns on and so does theirs.
Looking at her and smiling and she pauses to scan you over before she smiles back - and yes, you are going to have to tolerate an 'eye roll' too, but she will be smiling when she does it.
...
and the list goes on and on and on and....
...
Boys will be boys.
Men will be men.
but one thing remains:
chocolate covered creme puffs.
'One of a Kind' woman check list:
Chocolate covered strawberries and, well, chocolate covered creme puffs too.
Random flowers with random sweet notes on random days and the smile that follows on her face after she receives these, whether you see that smile or not.
The smell of a nail salon.
Wet wipes.
Watching the newest romcom on Netflix, Hulu, or Prime.
A home cooked meal and not having to wash the dishes.
A home cooked meal that you did not have to decide on.
A neck, shoulder, and back rub that potentially leads to a full body rub, as long as you are not constipated or have a pretend headache.
A warm bath with suds, candles, and soft music playing.
Going shopping for shoes, much less anything that takes three hours or more, at the 'crowdiest' place imaginable, no parking spots within miles, and it's summer time and a thousand degrees centrigrade.
Seeing him come around the corner, fully clothed, not having any sexual desires because you just did it yesterday or two days ago or whenever, him just wanting to 'hold' you.
Eating ice cream while watching the newest love reality show.
Either driving the speed limit or doing seventy-five in a school zone.
Getting your nails and toes done every couple of weeks.
Making him wait after he sends you a text just so you do not seem 'over eager' or 'too interested' when, in actuality, you are - so quit playing and get playing.
Being horrible at parallel parking and doing anything you can to avoid it, even if that means parking four miles away in an abandoned warehouse.
Being added to a text conversation - the more people on it the better - there being more emoji's and acronyms than actual sentences.
...
What, love?
These 'one of a kinds' not meeting your level of optimum satisfaction?
Let's finger a little deeper then.
...
Laying on the sofa under an electric blanket all year long.
When all you want to do after a long day is shower and lay your head on your man's chest while you watch some show that only you are into and you know he will sit there with you just to pacify you and your unspoken want.
When someone else takes care of the laundry for you, even if they do not fold it to your liking - and they will not.
When you find a missing sock that you have been looking for over the past two weeks.
A warm, or iced, cup of flavored coffee with two pumps of everything.
Wanting some new attire to wear, even if you are just lounging around the house.
A good appetizer with the right amount of 'freshness' and 'crunch'.
Not having to replace the empty toilet paper roll because he has already done it, and you were the one who left it empty.
The way that certain body wash smells on him and that little spritz of razzle dazzle he puts on afterwards.
...
What?
Am I getting more off-topic for your liking?
Really?
None of this pertains to you, princess?
Okay, okay, okay,
let me work these hands, little trouble maker...
...
When you're holding hands with him, and he grips your palm and rubs his thumb over the top of it and you squeeze it back and you swear time stand stills when you do this.
A day off to lounge around the house and be bummy.
Baggy pants and shirts and no bra when you are doing this.
Getting groceries delivered to the house and monitoring them as they set down every bag, almost keeping the door open so they go ahead and set them inside the house even though they are not going to do that.
Fussing at him, or whoever, about moving something that you have precisely positioned somewhere in the house because you have watched HGtv for the past two weeks and are now a house renovating specialist.
Light PDA on your date, especially if there are other girls around, just to show primal queen dominance.
Going to the beach to soak up the rays with your man and enjoy a day where you can disappear and show him the new swimsuit you picked out for his gazing eyes, knowing the compliments are about to roll in.
When you drop hints that you'd love for your man to leave you love notes laying around from time to time - and when he actually tries a couple days later, you adore him for it and smile when you tell him 'thank you'.
When he picks up take out on the way home, saving you from the countless battle of 'what are we going to eat tonight'.
Or when he picks up Tampons on the way home from work because you and your ovaries are at home, struggling, and you do not feel like leaving the house.
Baking brownies on movie night.
Finally getting a new bra.
...
Better?
No?
Yes?
Well how about this...
Let's find something to grip on this rollercoaster so we can finally let gravity work its magic.
...
Kissing someone and they do not taste like alcohol or tobacco, but, instead, they taste like them - good or bad.
When Bath and Body Works sends coupons in your email, and it is the 'three wick candle' or 'wallflower' one.
The way he fulfills any 'special demand or request' without questioning it.
A free car wash.
When another man gets a little mouthy and your man's presence, much less stare, neutralizes the situation.
Doing everything the hard way, in typical woman fashion, even if his or whoever's way makes more sense, and then, when you cannot finish the task, you ask him to do it and verbally critique him every step of the way as though you should have done it yourself.
Having a chore list and watching him help you mark off a couple of things on it, knowing all the while 'what' is going to go down later.
Trying out new recipes, even if you do not know how to cook in the first place.
The way he says 'I love you' without you having to ask for it.
Seeing another cute girl approaching, and he does not even glance in her direction and keeps his eyes locked on you.
Being resistant to trying any new type of smoked meat he suggests until that grill smell and drizzle sauce hits that nose and palate and you get caught elbow deep in it when the meat gets pulled off the grill - you munching, that sip sauce dripping down your arm - a secret carnivore.
...
A couple more personal confessions?
Unrelated?
*sigh*
Sure!
Get your fix, please!
...
A good concert.
Girl talk with the girls over a bottle of wine, and the sound that cork makes when it goes 'pop'.
When a group of women secretly hate the same man, or woman, and get a chance to talk about them, privately.
Ulta, with a thousand dollar gift card.
Singing in the car or shower when no one else is around.
Dropping a wall with the right person when you've had one up for years.
Picking your nose in private.
Passing gas in private.
A good bowel movement.
Finding someone that hates mayonnaise and pickles just as much as you do.
Going all day without a wedgie, frontal or back.
Watching his eyes when he sees a side of you, good or bad, he has not seen before.
A brand new stick of lip gloss.
Hitting all green lights and running a few yellow ones in the process.
When the buzz hits just right and you are around the right group of people and the right song comes on and you start shoulder shrugging until you finally loosen up and dance.
When you see that one girlfriend and you run up to her and squeal and start talking about ten random things at once.
Scanning him over and making him wait for his smile - your sign of approval that what your eyes sees agrees with what your heart feels.
Using ten thousand gallons of hot water, per shower.
Appetizers and salads.
Perfumes and body spritz' that smell stronger than a French whore.
...
and the list goes on and on and on and...
...
Girls will be girls.
Women will be women.
but one thing remains:
wine, chocolate (dark, milk, or white), chin deep tub full of suds, candles, bubbles, soft jazz, and forty-five minutes to yourself - him not sneaking in to catch a peek of ANYTHING relating to your nude body, even if you do not mind.
Reader,
you are a one of a kind too, maybe, I think, in your own little way.
...
Or maybe you think you are not and never will be and you do not care and that is that.
Or maybe you want to be and you have not found that right person to, in your return, be your one of a kind.
Maybe your self esteem is so low that you think you will never be a one of a kind.
Maybe, just maybe, you are confidant enough that you already know you are a one of a kind and you could care less what other people think.
Maybe, just maybe, you are in current development to becoming the biggest and best version of yourself and your 'status quo' is just around the corner.
...
Maybe you just do not care anymore on the outside even though you do on the inside.
Or, maybe,
you do not care anymore on the outside even though you do not on the inside.
...
Boys like what they like.
Young men like what they like.
Grown men like what they like.
Good or bad.
Right or wrong.
Left or right.
Filter the 'one of a kinds' - always - the non-cookie cutters that deserve to be protected and put into their own special lock boxes in your mind, the guys who are beyond words but still need to be protected from those that drain their soul and do not replenish it back.
Protect him, ladies.
Check in on him from time to time, even if he acts too macho for it.
Make eye contact with him.
Connect, while you can.
...
Tell him that you love him, even if you are just friends or even if you are not.
...
...
Girls like what they like.
Young ladies like what they like.
Grown women like what they like.
Bad or good.
Wrong or right.
Right or left.
Filter the 'one of kinds' - always - and steer clear of the crazy, gaslighting, rage baiting strumpets that lurk around, the ones that will never change for the better, and keep those 'special' ones locked away from the harm of this world, always letting her know, daily, how special of a being she actually is, and make your words make her believe that she is the primal queen that she is.
Protect her, fellas.
Check in on her.
Make eye contact with her.
Connect, while you still can.
...
Tell her that you love her, even if you are just friends or even if you are not.
...
..
.
In poker,
two of a kind can win you a hand, sure, maybe, depending how high the cards are and if your bluff does not make them fold first, or vice versa.
Three of a kind, now - we are cooking with a potential to win a sizable pot, still, depending on the range of the cards and if all other hands have folded.
Four of a kind, the odds clearly 0.02401% according to Google - I would not hold my breath on ever obtaining this hand - ever - even if the nearest chocolate covered creme puff store is on fire, but - still, a chance, even if there is not.
..
But,
that one of a kind - ladies...
But,
that one of a kind - gentlemen...
That is a 'all in', you knowing you would lose all your chips just to be able to have an evening with 'whatever' your 'one of a kind' is.
...
The smile when they actually admit, to your face, that you are a 'one of a kind'.
The smile your face makes when your 'one of a kind' magically appears in front of your face.
The way your body feels when you are actually able to enjoy your 'one of a kind' - whatever it may be - whoever it may be - whenever it may be.
How the rest of your day reacts when you are able to indulge in your 'one of a kind'.
After you enjoy one of your many 'one of a kinds', the way you describe it later to your friends or significant other and how just recounting the story sends you back to that moment of slow second ecstasy.
The way you gently handle your 'one of a kind', whether that requires touch or not.
...
If it involves taste, you chew slower.
It it involves touch, your fingertips graze the surface slower and a little more gently.
If it involves sight, you absorb every detail like you are looking at it for the last, or first, time.
If it involves smell, you close your eyes when it seduces those nostrils.
If it involves the way it sounds, well, let it rattle your ears like the most hauntingly satisfying sound you have heard all week.
..
The confidence someone must have to admit this to whoever or whatever...
The moment it creates when one person, or potentially both, acknowledge this about one another and verbally speak it and where it takes them from there - regardless of how bad they ignore it and push it away,
day after day,
week after week,
month after month...
year after year...
...
that 'one a kind'...
...
it sure is something,
isn't it?
